It also provides an evidence base for development partners who want to invest in bettering climate services.
A Milestone in Partnership
The creation of this volume was not without its challenges, but the result speaks volumes. It exemplifies the collaborative spirit of the ClimSA Programme: scientists, technical experts and practitioners working together to share insights and build knowledge. It’s a capitalisation tool that lays the groundwork for future initiatives to build on proven models and scale success in new contexts.
What’s Inside? the Five Themes of the Volume
Structured around the pillars of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS), the volume explores key elements of the climate services value chain:
- Engaging Users and Information Providers. Learn how co-designing services with farmers, communities and decision-makers leads to greater trust and better results, from the Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum to participatory practices in the Caribbean.
- Addressing User Needs with Climate Data and Information Products. Explore how tailored forecasts and early warnings are boosting yields in Burkina Faso and enhancing preparedness across regions.
- Improving Climate Observations and Monitoring. This section dives into the vital role of accurate, timely data, whether through satellite-based tools or regional initiatives like SARCOF.
- Tailoring Climate Research, Modelling and Prediction. From El Niño insights to next-generation climate projections, this theme underscores how robust science drives smarter decision-making.
- Building Capacity. Discover how training, institutional support and policy integration are ensuring that climate services don’t just exist, they thrive and evolve.
Looking Ahead: Make It Count, Make It Known
The volume is now available for download in three languages. We encourage all stakeholders, partners and institutions to:
