The ClimSA'22 Forum, Advancing Climate Service Applications, will bring participants together to exchange information and learn how to improve the effectiveness of climate services applications through user-friendly, climate smart, Decision Support System (DSS) tools. As users confirmed their needs and expectations during the ClimSA’21Forum, participating Regional Climate Centres (RCCs) expressed their aspiration to be supported to integrate climate information with sectoral production requirements and management models, and to design short-, medium-, and long-term adaptation practice strategies to combat climate change.

The ClimSA’22 Forum to be held on 26th – 29th September 2022 will showcase the application of climate information to user sectors through the development of climate smart DSS Tools. Part of the activities will also be to share the effort made toward the designation as WMO-RCC, Centre of Excellence.

The forum will be held in a hybrid format, with the in-person component being hosted by SPREP in Apia, Samoa, and the online component being held on Zoom.

Please note, the ClimSA Programme will not provide financial assistance for those wishing to attend the forum in person.

Key sessions will include:

  • Update on completed activities and activities in progress by each RCC and implementing partner
  • Learning session and exchanges on the use of knowledge management platforms
  • Identification of climate smart DSS tools that: (i) support stakeholders in decision making processes; (ii) may concern tactical decisions of planning everyday activities; and(iii) are strategic in long‐term adaptation to climate change such as seasonal forecasts, climate risk management, landscape design and policymaking.
